Clan raises £1500 in record time

Clan Farquharson secured its place in history by raising funds to lay an insignia stone in the Culloden Walk

The appeal was launched early in 2007 asking Clan members to make donations. Within a few months the target of £1,500 was reached largely between members of the UK and US associations.

Gordon Farquharson, Treasurer at the time said “I was astounded at the rate of response from the members who clearly saw this as an important opportunity to contribute to Scottish heritage and put a marker down for the Clan. Our American friends made a magnificent contribution.”

The Clan’s stone was set in the Culloden Walk at the new world class visitor’s centre. The National Trust for Scotland erected the centre on Culloden Moor, the site of the Battle of Culloden in 1745 in which the Farquharson Clan fought. This battle was the final fight between the Highland army of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Royal Troops of King George ll.

The stones which helped to fund the centre are made from Caithness stone, quarried from the north of Scotland. They are hand finished and ours is engraved with the motto “Càrn na Cuimhne – Clan Farquharson”. These stones should last for many years and ensure a strong bond with one of the most significant battlefield sites in history.

The walk is located in the approach to the Visitor Centre, a lasting reminder to all who visit and those who have contributed to such a symbolic heritage site.

The stone has its own Certificate of Authenticity which is retained by the association.
