NAME
1. There shall be formed a society based on the Scottish Clan Farquharson and which shall be named “ Clan Farquharson (UK)” (hereinafter called “ the Clan”).

OBJECTS
2. The objects of the Clan are :-
a. to promote the Scottish clan system

b. to promote and support Scottish culture, music, dance and dress

c. to organise activities for its members

d. to assist members in their family and clan history

e. to preserve the traditions and heritage of Clan Farquharson

f. to cultivate a spirit of kinship and pride amongst its members

MEMBERSHIP
3.
a. Membership shall be open to the following :-

(i) those who or whose relatives bear the surname of Farquharson

(ii) those who or whose relatives bear the surname of a sept of the Clan

(iii) any others whom the Committee shall approve

(iv) adults for Full membership

(v) family membership of up to 2 parents/guardians and dependent children under 18 years of age.

(vi) Honorary Vice Presidents nominated by the Committee.

b. A member shall cease to be a member on any of the following events:-
(i) Not paying the annual subscription within 14 days of it becoming due.

(ii) Death

(iii) Expulsion from the Clan (see below)

(iv) Resignation

c. Full members shall be entitled to vote at any general meeting of the Clan.

COMMITTEE

4. The Clan shall be managed by a Committee on the following basis :-
a. The Committee shall consist of:

(i) President
(ii) Vice President
(iii) Membership Secretary
(iv) Treasurer
(v) Newsletter Editor
(vi) 3 Committee Members

b. The committee may co-opt no more than 2 other persons onto the committee for the remainder of any calendar year following such co-opting

c. A quorum at committee meetings shall be one of either President, Vice President, Membership Secretary or Treasurer plus 2 others.

d. The committee will call an Annual General Meeting in each calendar year.
e. No member of the committee shall be remunerated but may be reimbursed expenses approved in advance

f. Members of the Clan may attend committee meetings and speak but may not vote . Honorary Vice Presidents have the same voting rights as members.

g. Each member of the committee shall retire at the next Annual General Meetings and may be eligible for re-election.

h. Any committee member may resign upon giving written notice to the President and the vacancy created may be filled on a casual basis

i. The committee shall be entitled to expel a member from the Clan if the committee is satisfied that the member has brought himself or the Clan into disrepute or has conducted himself in such a manner so as to be unfit to remain a member of the Clan but he shall not be expelled until he has been given a reasonable opportunity to attend a committee meeting or a General Meeting and make representations.

j. The President shall serve for not more than 3 consecutive years and shall retire for at least 2 years before being eligible for re-election as President
(this clause not deemed practical)

FINANCE
5. The Treasurer shall carry out the following functions :-
a. To keep all accounts for the Clan

b. To account for all money received and all expenses paid

c. To present at each Annual General Meeting a detailed account for the preceding year

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS

6. There will be held an Annual General Meeting on the following basis :-

a. This will be held in each calendar year

b. The Officers and Committee will be elected

c. The Auditor who shall not be a member of the Clan will be appointed

d. The Chair shall be the President or in his absence the Vice President or if neither present the person elected by those members present

e. The Committee will present an annual report and accounts

f. A written notice of the Annual General Meetings shall be sent by post to each member not less than 28 days of the meeting

g. Each Full member shall have one vote

h. A member may give a written proxy to another Full member

i. All resolutions to be carried by a simple majority vote

j. The annual subscription for the forthcoming year shall be set

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETINGS

7. The committee may call a special general meeting upon giving not less than 28 days written notice to each member. Each Full member shall have one vote.

CONSTITUTION

8. This Constitution may be amended at any general meeting of the Clan upon a resolution passed by not less than 25 Full members.

ACTIVITIES

9. The Clan may organise and fund the following activities:-
a. Social events

b. Cultural events

c. Fundraising activities for the Clan or others

d. Supporting other Clans in their activities

e. Supporting other organisations in their activities
